Using Twitter this week I found it to be very frustrating. As I composed my Tweets I made sure that the class hashtag was included before submitting my Tweet. When I searched the class hashtag I was unable to see my Tweets. I tried everything I could think of to fix it. I tried adding the hashtag in different places, replying to myself, adding my instructors Twitter address and of course, selecting the “All” link instead of “Top”. Nothing worked so finally I submitted a help request to Twitter.
Twitter support sent me an email with links to articles found on the Help Center that would help resolve my issue. What I discovered was as a new member it may take awhile to use the search field to find my Tweets. The more that people interact with my Tweets the easier for the search to find me.
If you're having trouble locating your Tweets or hashtags in search results, information on this link might help: https://support.twitter.com/articles/66018. Their advice is if your account is new to please be patient. New accounts may take a few days to start appearing in people search.
Even though I experienced difficulty on Twitter I can see some benefits of using it in education. It's a way to share resources and connect with like minded educators. Images and videos can be easily attached to messages that don't effect the 140 character limit. Depending on the number of people you follow the list of tweets can be overwhelming and time consuming to go through. Connecting with students by using the hashtag system or creating a list helps to organize their Tweets. The notification and messaging system is an easy way to communicate, too.
With much effort I was able to see some of my Tweets by using the class hashtag in the search field. Hopefully, soon I’ll be able to Tweet trouble free.
