Rubric Example
A good-quality rubric helps students understand what is required for an assignment, what a quality performance looks like and how that performance will relate to a grading scale. It will show them what they did well and what to improve upon next time. The benefits of a rubric is consistent scoring and improved performance from the instruction. They will help motivate students because they know what is expected of them on the assignment.
Each component of the assignment on the rubric provides a guide for the students as well as a guide for the instructor. The rubric helps in the planning of the assignment and helps in the grading consistency. The rubric reduces the subjective judgements when evaluating students work.
The rubric creator looks at each of the relevant parts of the assignment and provides descriptive feedback for students to know what is expected. The descriptors provide general traits and concrete indicators to make each level clear. An assigned weight, in percentages or points, helps students identify what is important in the project. By providing a column for instructor’s comments allows for feedback to the students.
