Introduction: About Me
Although I consider myself a lifelong learner I’m happy to say that the Video Applications for Education course will be my last class towards completing the TOUT program for my online teaching certificate. Upon completion of the TOUT program I would like to work for a company that offers webinars or online training. Course design in a LMS would be ideal. I would like to either personally give the training and/or prepare course materials.
Some of my favorite activities are traveling with my husband to the Caribbean to scuba dive and taking underwater videos and photos. Currently, as the technology director for a sailing club, I maintain the club’s website as well as participate in sailing events in and around Lake Michigan harbors. I’ve also taught college level technical courses in computer graphics and website design. These courses were held in a traditional classroom setting and were not taught online.
In this course I hope to learn more about how to use video to construct learning materials that engage learners and to assist them in developing a deeper understanding of a subject matter. I hope to develop course materials to use in training future technology directors to manage the club’s website when I leave my board position. Formerly, as a video editor for the Chicago Tribune, the applications I’ve used were Final Cut Pro and iMovie to edit other photographer’s clips but have very seldom been in front of the camera. So I hope during this video course to overcome my camera shyness. I will be capturing video clips using my Canon EOS Rebel T5i camera. My plan is to edit and produce video tutorials using the recommended Camtasia application. Camtasia is new to me so I look forward to learning to use this application to create interesting and motivational learning materials for administrators of the club’s website.
During this course I hope to demonstrate the qualities of a good online student. These qualities include time management, attention to details and a willingness to take on the challenges of using new technologies for educational purposes.
